This abstract expressionist painting was created in the tradition of gestural abstraction and action painting. I wanted to explore the relationship between nature and emotion. I wanted the heavily layered textures to embody movement and vitality. While the strands and splatters may appear spontaneous, the composition is deliberately constructed, balancing wild freedom with considered control. My hope is that viewers lose themselves in the shifting rhythms of the surface, discovering new currents each time they look.
This work will never be reproduced as a print and will remain a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
The surface of this painting is heavily textured, built up of multiple layers, with lumps and drips. The sides of the canvas are also painted, and the painting is sealed beneath a glossy varnish.
NOTE: This artwork can be hung without an external frame (edges are 4cm thick and painted and varnished). In situ photographs that might include a frame are for illustrative purposes only. Should you wish to frame the artwork, Bluethumb offer a variety of excellent options. In situ photographs provide an indication of the painting's size and are as accurate as possible. Please take note of the painting's actual measurements and size in relation to your wall.
BIO: My ideas and how I apply them to the canvases are seldom subtle and my intention is for the artworks to be striking and distinctive. I like to explore emotion and expression through colour and shape. I often use bold blocks of colour and outlines to anchor my designs that (I hope) are sometimes spiritual, fantastical, political, and in the tradition of modern and humanist art. As I develop my paintings, I focus on an idea, an effect, and a mood. I enjoy painting in different styles and my works range from abstract to abstract figurative, abstract expressionism to pop art, in addition to impressionist works.
