Illumination Diptych by Lumière 209cm wide

Spanning two panels, Illumination unfolds as an atmospheric landscape suspended between memory and imagination, where fire, metal, and light converge across natural wood surfaces. Through my signature use of pyrography, delicate scorched lines etch ghostly tree lines and shifting horizons into the grain, creating a sense of place that feels both familiar and intangible.
Layers of spray paint soften the composition with diffused tones of mist, sky, and reflection, while translucent applications allow the organic character of the wood to remain subtly visible beneath. Gold leaf catches and shifts with the light like fleeting moments of clarity, while a luminous band of gilded texture moves across the composition like a river of light or fractured horizon, drawing the eye across the panoramic landscape.
Exploring themes of transformation, transience, and quiet resilience, Illumination reflects the delicate tension between destruction and beauty where fire leaves its mark, yet light emerges. Burned surfaces are not diminished, but elevated; raw materials become refined through process, memory, and illumination.
Balancing natural imperfection with modern abstraction, this richly layered work offers both a visual meditation and tactile experience, an immersive landscape where atmosphere, texture, and luminosity quietly unfold.
