Artwork Description

Having lived in Brisbane’s surrounds for many years, my connection to the city is shaped less by its exact geography and more by memory, experience, and family.
I don’t recall Brisbane as a fixed image, but as fragments - the river, bridges, light, and the suggestion of landmarks layered over one another.
When my daughter was young, she believed our trips into the city were visits to London, shaped by the stories she loved. The Wheel became her version of the London Eye - a small shift in perception that stayed with me and became part of my own memory of Brisbane.
The Brisbane River, often overlooked for its muddy colour, is reimagined through light, where gold and reflection transform it into something luminous.
This work is a story of Greater Brisbane as I have experienced it - not as a literal map, but as a place filtered through memory, family, imagination, and emotion.
One of my favourite aspects of this piece is how it comes alive in changing light. As the gold leaf catches the light, different parts of the painting gently emerge and recede, creating a sense of movement that simply can't be captured in a single photograph.

Dimensions of Canvas: 180cm wide x 120cm high x 3.5cm deep
Dimensions Framed: 183cm wide x 123cm high x 5.5cm deep Natural Oak Raw Timber floating frame

Note: Due to the size/weight hardware has been installed on the rear, and the painting will need hang directly onto the wall not on a wire.
The Lumière Abstract Collection is my curated series of original works crafted to evoke a symphony of light, texture, and emotion with a sense of quiet luxury.
Each piece captures a moment suspended in abstraction. Rich textures, layered pigments, and subtle metallics evoke movement, mood, and introspection.
This collection invites viewers to experience light not as a source, but as a sensation. Lumière speaks to the collector who appreciates depth beneath simplicity, and elegance within emotion.
Designed for modern interiors, curated spaces, and discerning art connoisseurs.
