Artwork Description

The background is rendered with a broad wet-on-wet technique, creating a misty, expansive atmosphere that evokes the vast outback horizon of South Australia. In contrast, the figures in the foreground are defined with sharper lines and stronger contrasts, emphasising their movement and energy. The dust and blocky structure of the cattle herd help separate areas of saturation, adding depth and enhancing the spatial sense of the entire composition.

Located in South Australia, Anna Creek Station is one of the largest cattle stations in the world. Here, people endure drought, dust storms, isolation, and relentless labour—this is the essence of "Dust and Grit", a tribute to the untamed Australian spirit.
