Elisha McGuckin is Western Australian contemporary exhibiting artist. Predominantly self-taught, Elisha spent some time developing her skills at Fremantle Art Centre.
Obsessed with POP culture in all its forms and an absolute love of all colours rich and vibrant, she creates lively acrylic paintings on canvas.
She has been a practising artist for many years now but made the decision to pursue a career in the arts in 2016. This decision arrived simultaneously with the " lets start a family" decision, Elisha has worked with discipline through, tears, exhaustion and joy during the first 5 years of motherhood.
This major life transition has played an enormous role in influencing Elisha's subject matter, when her first born was just 3 Elisha held her first solo exhibition "Argh! What A Mess" at the Collie Art Gallery. Examining, juts that, her own personal journey. A collection of interior scenes and vibrant still life paintings of mess from around the home accompanied by lots of paintings of coffee cups and chip packets.
Elisha works with acrylic paint onto canvas, she creates a collection of vibrant works with a humorous perspective, she is inspired by everyday life. Her paintings capture all things domestic, messy fridges and washing machines all the way to sweet treats, bandaids and measuring tapes. Elisha paints intuitively, with traditional painting methods and smooth expressive brushstrokes, to create pop art inspired still life paintings, depicting your favourite consumables, from sweet treats and marshmallows to toothpaste and measuring tapes. No subject is to dull!
After the success of her first show, Elisha moved straight into preparation for her next show "All consumed", held at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah. This most recent exhibition allowed Elisha to extend on her pop art inspired pieces, painting more bottles and pantry staples. Extending into landscapes and shop fronts all the way to the household tv showing her favourite music show "rage", she shows she is not restricted to just still life paintings.
Her next show to be held in September 2023, "Through Her Eyes" a group show, will take us back to her journey of motherhood as she captures more domestic chaos, while she continues to adjust and begins to accept herself and who she has become in this still very role as a mother.
Elisha continues to sell works to collectors both Australia-wide and internationally. Her paintings have been displayed in various venues across Australia. With a new works being released intermittently and exhibitions booked ahead to 2025, she is definitely an artist to watch.
