Artwork Description

This is the fourth painting in this series. At the moment, I seem to be working in groups of three, which means my style changes slightly between each group of three paintings. This time I've branched away from the old magazines that I found in the back of my cupboard and had a bit more intuitive fun. The models are inspired from images of paper dolls I found of Lana Turner. I changed their hair colour and faces, and I let the teenager in me design their clothes and shoes.
Being a farmer's daughter, I love stencils (think of wheat bags and wool bags) so I have given this painting , and the two that will accompany it (stay tuned) , a stencil effect. I am also not limiting myself to just acrylic paint - I've gone and scribbled notes and shopping lists with graphite on these next three magazine covers. Doesn't everyone write notes and shopping lists on their mags? And it's soooo much fun to turn these everyday things into art.
Have you noticed - this series is getting grungier, and almost turning into street art?
The next two paintings in this group will be coming out over this week as I finish them off.
Oh I forgot - the proverbs. I'm trying to find real doozies. Love em.

Artist Bio

Elle S is my space for creative freedom — a place to experiment, play, and explore without boundaries. Free from the expectations of my main studio practice, I create works that move fluidly between texture, colour, and form. Each painting is part of an ongoing conversation between intuition and control, discovery and familiarity.
Here you’ll find a mix of earthy, Australian-inspired tones and bold contemporary compositions — artworks that feel fresh, spontaneous, and full of quiet energy. They’re made to bring curiosity, warmth, and a sense of life into modern spaces.
New works are usually released on a Thursday evening.
