This portrait is painted with a limited palette — Titanium White, Ivory Black, Alizarin Crimson and Yellow Ochre. The restricted colour range gives the study a quiet honesty, letting the structure of the head and the shifts of temperature do the work. Brushstrokes stay visible and direct, with warm ochres pushing against cooler greys to create a sense of presence rather than polish.
The sides of the recycled canvas are painted white; the piece will look its best in a simple natural-wood frame.
