The Golden Wattle has just finished blooming here in Central Victoria and was a prolific display. The baby Kookaburra found a nice safe place to nestle in amongst the blossoms. i love the contrast between the softness, the golden colours of the wattle and the striking brown feathers of the bird. This piece was indeed a challenge for me as I have spent many many hours working my way around the painting, taking particular care to individualize each blossom. I have chosen watercolour on a background of watercolour paper on illustration board. This painting is one that reflects the natural beauty of our Australian bushland, bringing together one of our most famous native birds together with our native flora. The earthen tones make this painting ideal to fit in any decor, especially where a "natural palette" is required.

Artist Bio
Hello ,
Thank you for taking the time to read my biography! From the time I could hold a pencil I loved making marks on paper, canvas, boards and anything else I could find! I was 5 years old when my parents discovered my gift for drawing and they encouraged me every step of my artistic journey! That was just a "few" years ago! At least it seems like it! Now, here in my studio in country Victoria I have a wealth of material to draw from (literally)! Having travelled extensively around Australia, firstly with my parents as a teenager and then as a singer/songwriter in the field of Country Music whilst in my 20's, then with my own family, when together with my husband we worked for a tour company based in Alice Springs.
For me, the sounds and sights of Australia are not just there in my mind, they're etched on my heart as well!
I particularly love the wild birds, flora and landscape of this great nation. A part of myself and my journey goes into every work I create and I love it when others see the beauty of creation through my artwork! The incredible bonus for me as an artist is being able to share my passion with others so they too can experience the joy it brings!
I have an affinity with the stories from the past, the stories my grandmother used to share with me. I'm sure that's why I get excited when I paint an old chimney that tells the story of the house that once stood beside it, and that is now a playground for cheeky Galahs. Or a half fallen down fence that has now become a native birds perch. There's a story behind every artwork I create and I hope you can hear it as you view my work.
Having exhibited extensively during the early 2000's. I then took time off from exhibiting to concentrate on family and creating new works. It was also during this time that I was asked to produce a series of 7 colouring books for Woodlands publishing with distribution both Australia wide and in New Zealand.
You can also view articles featuring my artworks plus some of my demonstrations in the various magazines from Artist's Palette, Back to Basics, Creative Artist and How to Paint , all published by Woodlands Publishing now available in digital format.
Quite often people searching for that unique piece of art to hang on their walls or brighten up their office space find it difficult to find what they're looking for, or in the colours, style and medium they like. I am more than happy to discuss which of my artworks would best suit your needs!
Taking the time to appreciate creation and learning as much about my subjects and my ability to capture them authenticity is at the forefront of my artistic journey, for me, drawing and painting combined with singing and songwriting equals, happiness!!
When you invest in an "original" artwork to hang on your wall, you're not just hanging up something that looks nice and brightens up the space, you're sharing the artists' life and aknowledging your appreciation of the hours, days, months and even years that have gone in to creating it.
I'm so very grateful for the creative gifts I have been given and even more grateful that I can share them with you!! I love getting out into the countryside and capture the very essence of my subjects, my local Botanical gardens provides and endless scource of inspiration, I take photos, do sketches and put together a new artwork in my mind whilst engaging with nature.
I would love to have a conversation with you about any of my artworks. If you would like me to create an artwork that is unique and just for you please contact me using the "commissions" section right here on my Bluethumb profile. Once again, "thank you" for your interest in supporting Australian art! Best wishes, Ellen Lee.
