Artist Bio

Emilie Maguin is a visual artist based in Perth, Western Australia.

Her work is expressive , striving to capture a poetic depiction of the natural world with the use of strong and emotionally resonant colour .

Layers of heavy acrylics, oil and pastels build up rich texture on the canvas, adding to the visual interest and tactility of Emilie's works.
Intuitive mark making and gestural brush strokes overlap and weave symbolism and story telling into each composition. The tension between abstraction and figuration, dense solid colour and line, is repeatedly explored in the practice.

Emilie's artistic training was acquired in Aix-en-Provence, France, where she grew up. Her influences are varied, but the works of Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Vanessa Bell and David Hockney remain firm favourites.
