The Macdonnell Ranges are the main source of water for the Finke River which is the oldest river in the world. It rarely flows - usually it consists of a few waterholes and is often completely dry. This is truly a sunburned country.
We spent some time on the Finke a few years ago - right before rain; and it is amazing to watch the water trickle and eventually become a stream.
This semi-abstract-semi-realism Australian landscape is a colourful rendition of the land around the Finke, with the Ranges stretching vast across the horizon. Mineral-rich earth yields the most beautiful colours while tall sparse gum trees are the perfect contrast.
The sides of this painting are painted white, and it is ready to hang, with felt pads and quality picture wire. If you would like the sides painted a different colour, please let me know (for example, pale grey, pale pink, aqua, or coral would look beautiful as well).
It has been painted on high quality gallery-standard canvas, using a very limited palette (cad red, cobalt blue, cerulean blue, burnt umber, lemon, yellow ochre and white).
I am a prolific artist working full time from my studio in central Victoria, with much of my art being held in private collections around Australia, as well as exhibiting in local galleries and at the Victorian Artists Society in Melbourne.
