I shot the original photo of these two Chestnut-breasted Mannikins in Wynnum, Queensland. When I posted this particular photograph I received over 10,000 likes. This inspired me to put pastel to paper and replicate it as an art piece.
There were newly fledged bubbies close by so the parents were "On Watch".
The medium is pastel, a combination of pan pastels, soft pastels and pastel pencils for the fine details. The paper used is Clairefonataine Pastelmat which comes from France.
