Bird in the bush

This was an unusual painting for me to do. I had never painted birds. I was keen to portray the softness of the plumage against the texture of the bush.

It is based on realism with a distortion factor, canvassing aspects of the ordinary and the extraordinary and evoking a sense of the social dynamics and psychological layers of identity and place.
