Artwork Description

Spray Paint on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

The internet has forever have changed the way we connect with people, no more more so than with the advent of online dating apps. The contrast of the glamorous retro image in combination with modern technology, explores how women now have far more control over their (love) lives than ever before, and no longer need to rely on men for financial support, or their parents to matchmake them with an "appropriate" partner.

It is also an observation of the high priority we place on our appearance. Tinder skews this even more by allowing people to select a date, based solely on their profile pic - a simple swipe left or right is all that’s needed to judge a persons’ worth. Is it any wonder we use younger looking or doctored photos of ourselves in an attempt to live up to our societies’ unachievable standards of ‘beauty’!

'Love Me Tinder' is another re-imagining of an older stencil painting and was created using a combination of palette knife impasto and acrylic paint to create a textured, abstract background. This is then overlaid with spray paint using hand cut stencils. This is then finished with hand painted details and a satin varnish.
