Sacred Mountain, Sacred Language

Sacred Mountain, Sacred Language is inspired by Mount Brown on Githabul Country, a sacred mountain connected to a story passed down through our Elders about the origins of the world's languages.

The central circle represents the mountain, while the blue surrounding it represents the sky. The green represents the trees and Country surrounding the mountain. The carpet snake represents the sacred connection to this place, as well as the important traditional knowledge and uses associated with carpet snakes for women.

The artwork reflects the importance of Country, language, women's knowledge, story and cultural knowledge passed through generations. Mount Brown is not simply part of the landscape; it is a sacred place carrying stories and knowledge that continue through our people.

since 1993 I have painted professionally and loved every minute of it. My biggest influence in both art and life is my Dad. He was a successful artist,storyteller, community elder and traditional man. Though sadly he has passed now I hold strong my ties to my tribes and respect and protect our stories. Most of my art recounts my family stories passed on by Dad,mum,nan & great grandparents. I come from the Gidabul/Ngarkabul/Widjabul on mums side & Wonnarua/ Dhunghutti on my Dads.

I also share my passion for art by facilitating workshops for children teaching them all about my wonderful culture and art. I am very fortunate to work with and mentor vulnerable women both indigenous and non-indigenous through art, listening and sharing. I hold yarning circles with the indigenous women at a womens rehabilitation centre. we are able to hold such a sacred space really creates a safe space for healing.
