Artwork Description

WHISPER - Gosia Orzechowska

”Listen to silence. It has so much to say.” Rumi

Whisper - it is my subtle, delicate, gentle conversation with you. Whether such conversation begins with a whisper, a startled look, or a furrowed brow.
I would like to whisper a story about her, about beauty, a butterfly and a flower or her closed eyes. Create a bit of a magical scene or inner world where she likes to escape. She doesn’t have a name and she has a different face on each painting. She can be any of us. She takes her strength in her fragility - femininity’s true beauty - in which she believes.
Living an overwhelmed life, full of anxiousness and exhaustion, trying to
live up to a multi-tasking ideal, She still likes to have a flower beside her,
a intimate artefact like a… bag or dragonfly shoes - just to give a lighter
touch and balance the seriousness of life.

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world
for the moment,” Georgia O’Keeffe once said.

Flowers have special, much more important purpose than decorating,
in my paintings. Over the centuries, artists have captured the rich symbolism of flowers. Mine are meant to enhance feminine fragility and beauty.
Flowers intrigue me with their unique beauty and it is such a pleasing endeavour painting them. It always presents a challenge when it comes to colours and forms. It’s like working with an abstract theme which in conclusion becomes representative.

Artist Bio

Gosia Orzechowska is a Canberra-based artist born in Poland.
After completing her 5 years of tertiary studies in the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland she emigrated to Australia.

With her solid background in oil paintings, etching, sculpture and modern art installations she kept experimenting with different media to finally focus on painting mostly in acrylic.

Her latest paintings are inspired by nature. In her works she often depicts wild Australian flowers. Gosia’s fascination with native plants didn’t happen overnight. As a migrant she went through the process of exploring, understanding and falling in love with Australian nature.

Although Gosia’s current works are representative and very detailed it is not her aim to create photo-like paintings. She enjoys playing with detailed and un-detailed areas, with soft and hard edges, solve the challenges when it comes to colours and forms to show how expressive flowers can actually be. Whether the subject is representative or abstract it is intriguing to find that sweet spot of just the right blend of colours, structures and other elements of the composition to complement each other, to create a compelling visual experience. It’s a process one learns as an artist all their life.

It took years to finally reach the level of technical proficiency to be comfortable with facing the challenges Gosia now finds for herself in her art.

Gosia’s motto: “I paint therefore I am”.
