Flags are implements of everything from nationality to nationalism to tourism. They are tools to create belonging and division as well. This still life (not your average still life) of the American Flag fallen on a floor with other pennants draped on it conjures different thoughts to different people for some the flag on the floor would be desecration to others it might be decoration. No nation covets their flag more than the US but not nation probably technically desecrates it more either, its also one of the few nations in the world where flag desecration is actually legal. A fallen Stars and Stripes is a symbol for all that is both good and bad within a troubled country.
Framed with Oak frame. This work will be on display at Bluethumb's Melbourne Gallery for the exhibition 'Rising Realism' from April 12th.
