Water has always held a deep fascination for me—a source of life, movement, power, and endless beauty. Since ancient times, humanity has been drawn to its ever-changing surface, its colour, and its boundless nature.
In this piece, Fisherman’s Spot in the City by the Ocean, I explore the harmony between the city and the sea, capturing boats at rest in a peaceful bay. These boats represent more than just vessels—they symbolize journey, exploration, sustenance, and adventure. Harbours and coastlines have always inspired me, especially here on the Gold Coast, where brilliant waterways and ocean views meet golden sunshine.
The painting is richly textured and full of detail. Created on a large canvas, it reveals different layers and subtleties whether viewed up close or from a distance. I used gesso, silver, and gold mediums to build dimension, combining broad, vibrant acrylic brushstrokes for the backdrop with fine detailing to bring the scene to life. Finished with a gloss varnish to enhance the colours and seal the surface, the result is both luminous and tactile.
Working with three-dimensional textures is a joy—there’s something magical about the way hardened textures catch the light and give the artwork a sculptural presence. They help tell the story through depth, inviting the viewer to linger and discover something new with every glance.
