Library of the Deep grew from the way my mind feels when I’m completely immersed in creating.
I imagined my studio slowly transforming into an underwater library, where ideas drift freely and stories live beyond the surface.
The ocean became a metaphor for creativity, deep, layered, calm in places and wonderfully unpredictable.
In this 1m x 1m painting, created on alfresco canvas, I placed myself quietly painting as the room fills with water, books, thoughts, and sea life.
An octopus reads nearby, a manta ray glides easy through the space, and fish carry fragments of ideas between floating shelves, lamps, and handwritten lines.
Heavy textures ripple across the surface like moving water, adding depth and movement throughout the piece.
I’ve used gold leaf to introduce moments of shimmer and light, catching the eye like reflections beneath the sea.
Signed, textured, and ready to hang, this work reveals new details the longer you spend with it.
