Apple, knife and scrunchie

Colour, composition, light and mood were my primary considerations with this work. It compels me to work more on this theme and explore the tension and quietness present in this painting in other work.
The still life is set up on a wood board I had prepared with a light yellow ground. This colour works really well with the red, mauve and deep blue/ purple of the knife to heighten the tension in this painting. It draws you in quietly and has a mysterious quality.

I am inspired by form, light, colour and pattern. I paint and draw because I enjoy it and want to record what I see that’s beautiful. I work as well and find that small paintings help me to keep painting in the gaps between my job and family life. Small paintings are also easy to post! I complete each painting in one session, always working from life.
