Artwork Description

Vagaries of desire.

Oil on Belgian linen 45 x 60cm.

this piece was painted in several layers over three weeks using a derivative of the flemish technique.

I designed the composition to entail narratives of romanticism and symbolism, with subtle religious reference, as a small testimonial to my adoration for dutch golden age and baroque painting, while still embracing simplicity and minimalism.

The painting embodies class and traditionalism in both process and subjectivity, and is a timeless heirloom.

Artist Bio

Self taught oil painter, from Brisbane, QLD Australia. Influenced by the Baroque era, and the content and subjectivity of classical paintings. I aim to evoke romanticism, symbolism, and nostalgia as inspiration, trying to breathe modern life in to an era of art and culture which i think should be both mourned, respected, and resurrected.
