I allowed myself freedom across the whole process of this painting, and approached it with an open mind to both my expectations, and my objective. I believe that these motifs are visible in the finished piece, which is approximate, yet precise, using layers of oil paint and medium, almost incautiously spread over a canvas which i layered heavily with gesso, to achieve an interesting texture, and smooth surface.
Some of the smears and mess that can be seen are the consequence of me testing a colour carelessly on unimportant sections of the canvas, or cleaning used paint off of my brush by wiping it on the canvas, rather than using my turps jar - some of the smears even tell a tale of a corrected mistake, with paint being washed away while it is still workable.
I do not believe that the piece itself falls under any singular objective category, showing moments of traditional and contemporary realism, abstraction, impressionism - a simultaneous duality of order and chaos.
I think that all of these moments of chaos and intention, of mistakes and success, come together in unison and lend themselves to perhaps one of my favourite and most enjoyable paintings, resulting in a contemporary yet realistic piece of art which is relevant , and will lend itself to the quirky yet traditionalists tastes of the owner, and make any room or space bright, interesting, and a source of envy.
