Art has always played a role in Jennifer’s life. In the past, she has worked with oils, watercolour, coloured pencils, acrylic, gouache and charcoal. Everything that she has learned throughout her journey in art, has informed another passion, printmaking.
Her first experience with printmaking was at Sturt Workshop at Mittagong in a week long course. Since then, she has experimented with printmaking of different types- collagraphs, linocuts, drypoints, photo polymer/aluminium/zinc plate etchings. Jennifer loves working with multicultural themes- Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Balinese, Turkish, Indian…
Life drawing and drawing from nature are also being explored. There are many artists who find one medium or one technique or one subject that they remain faithful to. I'm excited by and interested in every art experience. No matter how varied my work is, there is always detailed observation and depth of thought. I love the variety that the world offers. I seek satisfaction, fulfilment and calm from my exploration of art.
Alongside Jennifer’s career in teaching, she has always nurtured a strong link with art, illustrating educational resources. She has exhibited and sold her work in various art shows and competitions (including the Gosford, Blacktown, Northbridge, Hunters Hill and Hornsby art prizes) and in galleries in and outside Sydney, in Moscow, South Africa, Japan and Washington State. Within the past several years, she continues to receive recognition in the Ku-Ring-Gai Art Society’s Annual Awards, in the Australian Miniature Art Society’s awards, the Ryde Art Society Exhibition, the Waterbrook Art exhibition and the Hunters Hill Art prize. An etching, ‘The Dragon Stirs’, was a finalist in the Combined Art Society’s awards at the Maritime Museum in Sydney. A framed collagraph plate won the Waterbrook small works prize in 2016 as well as being commended in the Hunters Hill Exhibition.
Again, Jennifer participated in the World Miniatures awards in South Africa. She was awarded one of the fourteen ‘Awards of Excellence’.
She has just joined with two other artists in a group exhibition at Breathing Colours Gallery in Balmain. The opening saw the gallery full to the brim with enthusiastic buyers. A wonderful experience.
As my works are 'works on paper', I sell them unframed. I feel it's safer in transit and people like to make their own decisions about mounts and framing.
I won the Australian Society of Miniature Art Printmaking section in the 2019 awards as well as the Yvonne Perrin award for traditional art and in 2021 won the prize for innovative work. I received first place in the Ku-Ring-Gai annual art awards in Printmaking . I was a finalist selected from 600 entries in the Australia/ Korea art foundation open awards in the past 2 years.
