Artwork Description

Painted with layers of thin translucent and opaque hues to create a sense of atmosphere. Floating luminous clouds are framed by natural shapes of the foliage. The night sky continues to inspire me through Melbourne lock down. Looking over the fence, in a suburban backyard there is hope within and beyond. The sky becomes illuminated with the sun set beyond the horizon and the stars appear. Nature always provides inspiration, hope and peace.

Artist Bio

Jen Prior is based at her garden studio at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, in Melbourne’s outer east.
Mainly working with oils, but enjoys exploring the process with different mediums /techniques of watercolours, drawing and photography.

After exhibiting in group shows through regional Victoria and graduating Bachelor Fine Arts, 1998.

Creating became private and a therapeutic outlet. Jen had some further illustrative opportunities in the conservation field, she studied and worked in and also a couple of small public mural works. In 2018 she won 1st prize in Art 4 All, at Fairfield Primary School Art Fair, a Bluethumb Art Prize finalist in 2022 and has exhibited across Melbourne in group shows .

Jens expressive and atmospheric inspired landscapes and skies are created out of a sense of reverence, an emotive response to the natural world. It is more about the feeling of a place, enjoying the challenge of painting subdued light and subtle tones in the half light, creating soft transitions between forms, sometimes visible other times obscure.
