āLifting the Fogā is a strong, meaningful piece to me. Iāve been chasing a sense of normalcy after a rough year of bad health. I was only able to paint in very small amounts, getting frustrated that my body couldnāt do where my mind wanted to go. Painting is my calm, my sense of self. After a good rest over the holidays, Iām feeling almost normal again! My brain and my body are finding a balance again.
I started this piece early last year. Then it sat. It waited for me. Iād look at it occasionally when Iād open my studio door and it was always asking me what it wanted to be. Itās a strange connection to a canvass that I canāt really explain. I have conversations with my pieces.
One weekend, after I felt like I could actually paint without keeling over, this one came to life. Itās soft, gentle nature guided me. It started to remind me of home, sitting on the dock in the early hours of morning with my cup of tea, watching the sunrise with a heavy mist and the loons calling to each other. If youāve never heard a loon call, please look it up and have a listen. Itās beautifully haunting. Theyād call out, dive under the water and resurface to call out again. Itās truly one of the things about Canada I miss the most.
As with most of my work, this piece is highly textured. The texture gives me a starting and finishing point. I can fill the voids, create a world around the dimples and dents.
I try my best to photograph my work. However, which type of device you view it on does change the colours ever so slightly. Thereās an array of different colours in this one. Blues, coral, blush, turquoise, magenta. Please note that there is no bright white used in this piece. Itās a soft, stone white which has a more ethereal effect.
If you arenāt certain how this piece would look in your home, Iām happy to photoshop it into your space. Simply message me a photo of your room and Iāll do my best to give you a good indication of how it could look.
This piece is very subtly signed on the front. I have also signed on the back for authentication purposes.
With a black painted edge, you really donāt need to frame this piece. The black edge wraps ever so slightly to the front of the painting - adding to the ethereal feeling of the piece. However, a good frame does make the piece pop and tie in with whatever furnishings you have in your home. Iām always happy to assist if you would like to visualise framing options. The images you see in the listing are created with InsituArtRoom app and are for illustrative purposes only.
This piece will be varnished in a soft satin varnish to protect the piece and deepen the colours.
*Please note these images are created using an app to show design and framing examples only and is not to exact scale . This piece is stretched & UNFRAMED so please check the dimensions before purchasing.
