Artwork Description

This is the largest piece I’ve ever created which proved an immense yet incredibly rewarding challenge. Painting off a ladder, painting in larger scale and grossly miscalculating how much paint I actually needed!
This piece took me on quite a journey. It started, stopped, we moved, and I started over. The new home gave me a new perspective and calmness to work through my process.
As I paint, I start to get this sense of how I feel, how IT feels. The contrasts between light and dark space and the softness of the texture emerge to tell me a story. Usually a name starts to develop as the painting takes shape. I start getting words, phrases, feelings and memories stuck in my head.
The name for this one came from my often midnight excursions I took myself on. I have always adored sitting by a lake lit only by the moon. Crouched along the shores watching the light dance across the ripples. This piece took me to that sanctuary of peace and calm. I also had the feeling I was sitting in an open field, covered in dew as the sun started to lift in the sky. I kept getting transported to my memories. 🥰

As this piece is rather large (1500 x 1500) it deserves to be the centre of attention. It can exist in a quiet space or one filled with colour. It is suitable for many styles of interiors.

With over 30 layers of colour and texture, you can spend hours looking at small details and finding colours you never noticed before. There’s warm white, greens, blues, turmeric and even some purples and reds once you look closer. There’s luscious drips and wildly beautiful colour combinations.

This piece is created on a custom made, very high quality canvass. There is no need for framing. However, it does look incredible with a natural frame as seen in the images provided.

If you have any questions about the piece, or would like to see how this would look in your home prior to purchase, please message me. I’m absolutely thrilled to assist with your art purchase.

Artist Bio

I’ve always been the creative sort. Since I was very young I’ve been creating and exploring my surrounds. I grew up on large acreage in Canada and was fuelled by natural inspiration. The seasonal changes, the marshmallows of snow capped trees and the reflections off the lake still resonate with me. Now, I find myself staring at oceans and water and am stunned at how similar a winter landscape so closely resembles a crashing wave.

When I was completing my bachelors degree in interior design, I discovered abstract art. It felt so freeing and completely different than the technical constraints of interior design. Soon after completing my degree, I moved to Australia, became a full time interior designer yet continued painting so I had something to hang on my very bare walls.

I left my design career to focus on creating art and running the back end of our small construction company - yet I work from home so am able to sneak in some painting in between book work and emails. There’s never quite enough time to get into the studio and each piece takes approximately 30 hours to complete - hence I only release new work occasionally. I look forward to the time in my life that I’m able to be in the studio for days on end instead of being tied to my desk! I'm an 'occassional' artist. I paint when I can fit it in with my busy schedule.

With a background in sculpture and pottery, I use a lot of texture in my work to ‘sculpt’ an image. I love the depth and energy it creates. The texture layer guides the painting. Layer upon layer of colours, both acrylic and ink transform the texture into an energetic canvass, filled with nuances, surprises and life. There’s often over 30 layers of colour added to each piece and this creates a depth that’s quite difficult to photograph. Each piece is very unique. I don't often paint the same thing twice. I paint how I feel, what I feel, what mood I'm in. I'm always experimenting and love the process of discovery.

I am an intuitive artist and my work is a reflection of natural landscapes and my experiences of living in two very opposing climates and environments. I often dabble with other styles - because it simply feels like what I should be doing. My moods and experiences are always prevalent in my work. I currently reside up on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my husband and 4 dogs and find endless inspiration in our adventures and on our property where we are surrounded by lush rainforests and beautiful greenery.

I always aim to create work that moves people and permits the viewer to see something others may not. I like to think that there’s often smaller paintings within the large one.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to view my work. It is so very much appreciated.
