I just love the tropical pandanus trees that you see everywhere on the Sunshine Coast where I live……they are almost like sculptures in themselves!
Rather than just painting them on a canvas, I’ve used a positive/negative technique where you paint around the subject rather than on the subject. In the first layer, underneath the white I’ve painted interesting patterns in muted beachy tones that form the pandanus trunk and wispy leaf shapes. It ends up being far more interesting, especially in a mini painting.
This would look fabulous in a hallway, by a bed, a nook wall or even in a kitchen and would bring memories of the beach and fun holidays in the tropics.
