Artwork Description

This piece began life as a very ordinary sand dune, and then morphed into something else. After it was finished I studied it in an effort to figure out where it might have come from, and what it might mean. As is so often the case, what I paint often reflects my state of mind. Living, as we are, in the time of Covid, I feel this painting may well be an abstract depiction of the world right now. We are very much on the edge of order and chaos - as well as change.

Artist Bio

I’ve painted since I was old enough to hold a brush.. Born with a significant visual impairment, I was encouraged to draw and paint in the hope it would aid visual development. I’m not sure it did much for my eyesight, but it certainly did plenty for my spirit

Art, for me, is all about communication. Everything I paint is communicating something , whether it be a simple emotion, or a more complex thought. My artistic style encompasses: abstract, expressionism, Impressionism and surrealism. If I were to categorise myself, I would say I’m an Outsider artist. Outsider art has been described as ‘any work of art produced by an untrained idiosyncratic artist who is typically unconnected to the conventional art world.’

In addition to painting I have a number of other creative outlets. I’m a trained florist and published children’s author. I crochet and design clothing, work with clay and make jewellery.
