The Dog-walker

This is painted from my memory of a scene I saw very briefly as my husband and I drove past. What struck me was the.reluctance of the dog, and how purposefully the dog-walker was striding ahead obviously oblivious. Just thinking of this memory makes me smile.

This is second oddly-shaped canvas and floating frame made by my wonderful husband, Russ. Shaped canvas is a recognised style dating back to the 1920s. It was particularly popular in the 1960s. The measurements below are taken from the widest points of width and height.

I’ve painted since I was old enough to hold a brush.. Born with a significant visual impairment, I was encouraged to draw and paint in the hope it would aid visual development. I’m not sure it did much for my eyesight, but it certainly did plenty for my spirit

Art, for me, is all about communication. Everything I paint is communicating something , whether it be a simple emotion, or a more complex thought. My artistic style encompasses: abstract, expressionism, Impressionism and surrealism. If I were to categorise myself, I would say I’m an Outsider artist. Outsider art has been described as ‘any work of art produced by an untrained idiosyncratic artist who is typically unconnected to the conventional art world.’

In addition to painting I have a number of other creative outlets. I’m a trained florist and published children’s author. I crochet and design clothing, work with clay and make jewellery.
