The first of three expressionist, Francis Bacon-style portraits where I have not referenced an Ancient Roman bust.
Here is a representation of a Roman General. The portrait has largely been created using brushes with a minimal amount of palette knife work used for additional impasto effects.
A range of high quality oil paints were used - Cranfield, Art Spectrum, Winsor & Newton, Old Holland and Michael Harding - on triple -primed canvas.
Some of the initial rough grey lead pencil lines have been deliberately left visible to reveal the “mechanics” of this work’s construction and provide an interesting contrast with the textural and vibrant qualities of the oil paints.
Signed in bottom-right corner and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Ready to hang with strong d-rings/wire on the back.
Sides of canvas have been painted black.
