Cooktown Fires

In 2020, we travelled for the first time to Cooktown and as we approached the town we noticed some smoke in the distance. We headed up to a higher vantage point to get a handle on just how serious the fires were and we soon realised we could be in for an interesting visit. After a rather sleeepless night not knowing which way the wind would turn, we woke to find the wind had been in our favour. I wanted to record this trip by way of this painting, showing just how ferocious the fires were, even creating their own clouds.

Jill Bryant is a West Australian artist, based in Fremantle. Jill inspired by the colours‚ textures and emotive elements of everything around her making her work extremely varied. Her passion for art started at a very early age and has continued to grow along with her skills awarding her with Dux of her year in two art institutions during her years of art education. Although a qualified Graphic Designer her real love is for painting‚ both in impressionistic and abstract forms.

The watercolour medium never ceases to captivate her and has moved her to push the boundaries producing stunning watercolour abstracts and impressionist works.
