Last weekend we spend the afternoon at Sandgate. It was a perfect day and given it is technically still winter, it was even better! I saw a mother and child by the water's edge looking intently at something, and their almost silhouetted bodies against the glistening water I thought this would make a beautiful painting. It made me think of the times I spent with my daughter when she was a child, scanning for shells, her delight in discovering a treasure, or rather treasures and then trying to find enough pockets to safely transport them home. I wanted this keep this painting simple and uncluttered to portray a precious, simple moment.
