The Boab Tree is a symbol of life and positivity. Aboriginal people used giant Boab trees for shelter, food and medicine. Each boab tree is unique, with its own character and personality, as you would expect from such an ancient creature.
I wanted to create my own version of the young Boab Tree near the sea located in Broom Western Australia. I love the colors of the sky, the sea and the earth, it makes for an interesting combination, subtle but yet drastic colour changes. Australian bright earth Orange, shallow seas Turquoise to Blue sky.
The oil painting is painted on a wooden panel and the base is coated with marble dust gesso. All my paintings are framed in my studio.

Artist Bio
Hi, my name is Jori Poutanen. I come from Finland but lived one half my life in Australia. I Currently live in Cairns, tropical North Queensland. Surrounded tropical rainforests and Great Barrier Reef. Great place to up bring your young family. I love outdoor living, trekking, fishing, diving and of course oil painting.
I work only with oil paint and also with charcoal drawings. I often experimenting with different techniques and discovering different ways to use my oil medium.
My father and uncle in Finland were artist in their own. Observing my artistic family when I was young gave me spark to paint as well. My uncle was a professional artist in Finland. He was a World War II TK draftsman where he held a “Rifle in one hand and a pencil in the other hand” and documented the activities of the front. He would have a lot of stories to tell. And my father on other hand was a sailor who was painting offshore when he had time. We Finns don't talk too much but let the paintings speak for themselves. I paint way I see it and I hope you like what you see.
Oil paintings of natural beauty and way I see it.
My oil paintings are painted either on wood panel, MDF panel or canvas. I prepare my panels or canvases with Marble dust Gesso made with my special recipe and paint with the highest quality oil paints, which allows for the best final result.
All my paintings are also framed as shown in the picture. If you prefer natural wood color framing, you can contact me and let me know.
