The legionaries were the elite soldiers. A legionary had to be over 17 years old and a Roman citizen. Legionaries signed up for at least 25 years service, and at the end of the 25 years, they were generally awarded land they could farm and/or a large sum of money. This is part of my life portraits of people features I admired in interesting strong or beauty and their stories.
