Deep in the valley, the river moves in near silence. Morning light breaks through the canopy in shafts, catching the riverbank bushes in a sudden blaze of gold while the water below shimmers quietly — unhurried, luminous. This painting captures that fleeting moment where shadow and sunlight exist together in perfect tension.
Painted in traditional oils, the atmospheric depth is built through layered glazing, drawing the eye from the cool darkness of the valley into the warm, glowing heart of the scene. It is the kind of light that stops you mid-stroke of the paddle — the light that only an artist's eye truly holds onto.
This particular piece is created on a 5mm MDF panel. Working on panels allows for more intricate details compared to canvas, which can sometimes lose detail during the painting process. I find painting on panels enjoyable due to their smooth surface and the ability to control texture. All my paintings come framed, as depicted in the image.
