About twenty years ago at an auction in Sydney, there was a large and heavy early 18th Century baroque frame with a broken mirror in it. The mirror was a more recent addition and the overall
weight must have caused the whole thing to fall off the wall. I could not resist this opportunity
after years of regret at having refused a magnificent frame while in the Netherlands from the
hunting pavilion of Queen Wilhelmina. Some restoration was needed as it was ornately created from nearly 300 year old plaster, but with a little time, patience and money we brought back some of its former glory. As we worked on the frame, I started to make sketches and designed a composition which would complement its characteristic and also highlight where I was at in my career. I am extremely happy with the painting and it has hung for years in one of our biggest rooms. It is definitely the family favorite but we now all agree it’s time to see if anyone else has the room to be its custodian.

Artist Bio
Kivits’ classic oeuvre includes not only original Still-life’s, but also Fruit and Floral compositions, Landscapes, Seascapes and Figurative works in glazes of oil-paint. Predominantly tapping into his antique collection for inspiration, his works take considerably longer to produce; hence a small number of masterpieces are created annually.
True traditional realism, all in the line from the Sixteenth century European Masters onward, he is staying true to these time-proven styles, refusing digital means to aid his work, e.g. projection, pre-printed canvas, grid tracings, or anything but the skill of his own eyes to hand.
Dutch-born Kivits' has firmly established himself in Australia as a legitimate Brand over the years, and his creations have found their ways to art lovers in many developed countries.
