Artwork Description

Monyou means traditional geometric or botanical patterns in Japanese, which have been used for thousands of years on clothing and textiles. This is a painting of 4 bowls which are part of the Monyou Collection. I bought my first set of Monyou bowls online this year and was only going to use them for eating but then I saw them stacked up and thought of painting just the bowls. I so often paint still life compositions with Chinese ginger jars or vases in amongst a bouquet of flowers, wine bottles and fruit. This time I wanted to do a series with just the bowls and that is how this series came about. It is very simple in composition yet lots of detail in the painting itself. I used acrylic as a base then worked in oils to give it the true colours and feel of blue and white china ware. It measures 60x60cm and is ready to hang on your wall. It can be framed at an additional cost.
Bring that Hamptons feel into your home with my Monyou Bowls.

Artist Bio

I was born in Adelaide in 1971. My childhood consisted of bohemian treks around Australia with my artistic parents and older brother; “The stark light and vivid colours of nature were my initial inspirations.” You could say I inherited my parent’s talent for fine art. Even after growing up painting in my mothers studio, I never saw painting as a real job and yet here I am making a living from my art for the last 20+ years. The secret is that it's never been a job but more a full time passion. I left for Europe at 19 and attended the “Ecole Superieur D'Art Plastique et Visuel” in Mons, Belgium. The life experience and knowledge I learnt in the 4 years I attended were literally the best 4 years of my life. I picked up my first brush at age nine and began my career as a professional artist at just 20 years of age. I have always drawn inspiration from still life and I like to challenge myself as an artist to paint Abstracts, Nudes, Cityscapes, Landscapes and Animals. After 13 years at Sanctuary Cove and 5 years at Marina Mirage at Main Beach my studio gallery is now located at the Paradise Centre Surfers Paradise, on the beautiful Gold Coast. I regularly exhibit with selected galleries around Australia. "For me, still life is everywhere we look. It is the clock face of time and culture. From the fresques at Pompeii, to Bruegel's interiors or Gauguin's fruit. .... we understand it and recognize it. I take objects that are often overlooked, but we see everyday and bring them to life for all of us to admire. My inspiration is to capture the quiet, simple, timeless objects of our daily life.....""I try to impart a sense of harmony and balance through my work. My aim is to paint pictures that people can live with and look at with increasing pleasure - to capture a feeling or a moment in time which then becomes timeless... the colours and textures of fruit, the reflection on glass, table tops catching the morning or afternoon light, cherries falling off the tablecloths. "I move forward in an unseen order, a rhythm and a surprise.
