Artwork Description

This was among several figurative works that I painted in the last 12 months, capturing moments of wonder amid the mundane. It was just a mum and her kids at the local playground named Granny's. There she was, patiently pushing them both on the swing like she has probably done hundreds of times. But the light made the little one's hair a halo and cast shadows that made for a beautiful image. I think it's an interesting image that draws the eye and would warm any heart.

Artist Bio

My ambition is always seeking to capture beauty in the everyday. Many paintings share a strong connection to the environment and our place within it.
At the heart of everything is the search for light that transforms the ordinary into something else.
I moved to Warrnambool, on Victoria’s south west, after almost three decades as a newspaper journalist.
In 2020, I completed a Visual Arts Cert IV course at South West TAFE.
I primarily paint with oils in my home studio in a figurative and realism style; influenced by artists whose art features a strong storytelling element such as American, Edward Hopper.
In 2025 I held my first solo exhibition in Warrnambool called The Extraordinary Ordinary, celebrating how every day scenes can be incredibly beautiful, when viewed in a certain light.
I have been a finalist in various well known Australian art prizes, including the Kennedy Prize, John Villiers Outback Art Prize and ANL Maritime Art Award and Exhibition.
