Artwork Description

"Walk to the Mountains" is an oil abstract on a stretched canvas panel.

I begin abstract works with random gestural marks and gradually add more colours. I don't have a predetermined colour palette but respond to the previous layers that have been put down. Jus as with representational art, abstract art must also confirm to a sense of balance and harmony within the elements of tone and colour. It takes me many layers of paint to arrive at this point. The slow drying time of oils means that each layer has to dry before the next is added, but this delay gives me time to muse over the work and to see what adjustments need to be be made before I consider it finished.

The sides of the canvas are painted and the surface has been varnished for added protectiont. My initials are on the front with my full signature of the reverse side. The painting is sent ready to hang.

Thankyou for looking.

Artist Bio

I am an oil painter and over the years I have experimented with that medium using various styles and supports, techniques and tools. However, the subject matter is always the one common denominator. ...the subject is always based in nature, and invariably represents my response to something I have just seen in the landscape, or a small collected specimen that I have brought back to the studio.
My studio work process begins with an initial and very roughly painted sketch on the canvas, which is then followed by a loose application of paint over the entire picture plane in order to give an idea of composition and colour balance. These first stages are quickly executed, but with the slow drying nature of oils, the ensuing layers, and the final finished work can be days or weeks later.
The wonderful thing about art and any creative endeavour is that there is no arrival point. It is a journey of looking, learning, and discovery.
