'The Empty Vase - # 2' is the second in a new series that celebrates that 50s/60s retro Midcentury colour and floral aesthetic. With an imagined and inspired bouquet and shock of colour in each vase. Fashioned from detailed and hand cut, carefully selected and sourced vintage papers and images, multi layered, hand cut collage. In this series I wanted to highlight a joyful riot of colour with mythical flowers. Next to galleries and art, gardens and gardening are my favourite places and pastimes...

Artist Bio
Karen Coull (born Sydney 1961)
BA Visual Arts UWS 1992
A recipient of a City of Sydney Work/Live Studio Residency, Karen has exhibited in solo and group shows in Australia, UK, USA and Europe over the past 30 years.
She is represented in a number of public Australian and USA collections and private collections in Australia, Europe, USA and UK.
Coull is passionate about the often marginalised, domestic/traditionally female art practices with a strong emphasis on analogue collage using vintage and recycled paper. Her current focus is on her journey of ageing and the invisibility of older women.
