This new body of work evolved during lockdowns, with so much time available in the studio, and often in response to being confined my focus became narrowed and focused to my surroundings, including a focus on the dried native flowers in my studio. This focus concentrated on the minute aspects of the banksia flowers and the protea flowers and the shapes. These flowers had featured in my impressionist still life works.

These flowers are made up from an abundance of tiny flowers, they really caught my imagination, and after a series of experiments the inclusion of these beautiful shapes in my work have led to these mesmerizing works, which are indeed the antithesis of my still life native flower paintings.

From the artist : "The shape, form and the repetition are used as a veneer over the chaotic layers of paint below, in an emotive response to the sudden restrictions and control.

Being a creative person the freedom of expression needs an environment where you can do exactly that.

This work has evolved and despite the lifting of restrictions it has produced a therapeutic outlet, a release with a remedial outcome.

The abstract layers and overlay of textures have an emotive association for me, the colours are a response to the emotions and result in a conscious resolution of the work"
