Artwork Description

South Korea holds a deep place in my heart—I've returned to it time and again, even choosing to spend my 40th birthday there, immersed in its vibrant culture and creative energy.

One of the most iconic symbols of everyday Korean life is the beloved Binggrae Banana Milk, found in every corner store, vending machine, and memory. Originally introduced in the 1970s as part of a government initiative to promote milk consumption, it became an instant classic—its banana flavor a nod to a fruit once considered a rare luxury.

This piece is especially meaningful to me—it’s painted on a canvas I picked up during that recent trip, tucked carefully into my suitcase and brought home like a secret talisman. In rendering this humble object, I’m not just capturing a still life—I’m preserving a story, a memory, and a place I hold dear.

Framed in untreated natural wood, with fixtures on back to hang from.

Artist Bio

Creating her whole life and armed with a degree in Costume Design from Wimbledon School of Art, London, Kate starting to focus on painting more during the great lockdown 2020. Finding herself home alone, painting allowed an expressive and creative outlet that helped fill the void of isolation from the world. She quickly discovered a passion for painting, and specifically figurative and portraiture works, focusing on bright bold colour use and strong brush work. Her works take inspiration from the Pop Art, WPAP & Impressionistic movements, experimenting with conveying identity, character, emotion and thoughts.
