Artwork Description

In this piece, I sought to capture the ephemeral boundary where the earth’s whispers meet the sea’s breath. Through misty hues and textured layers of acrylic, I evoke a serene yet powerful landscape that both calms and captivates. It represents a place of contemplation—a visual poem to the quiet moments of introspection. Hanging this artwork in your home invites a meditative ambiance, a refuge from the chaos of everyday life, painted to bring a sense of calm and inspiration to any space, connecting the onlooker with the boundless spirit of the coastline. Inspired by the Australian coastlands, this large dynamic painting will fill your space with quiet, positive energy. Heavily layered paint exposes ghostly delicate under-painting details and thick areas of raised roughly textured paint in colours of mocha mousse, cream, beige, mist grey, umber and white.

Artist Bio

Kathleen is an Australian abstract expressionist artist living and working on the Gold Coast. With a passion for working on large-scale abstract paintings her beautifully calming works are inspired by the country’s picturesque natural environment. She studied at Brisbane Institute of Art, ANU Art School Canberra and Parsons School of Design New York City. She has exhibited across the globe with her works being held in private and public collections in 15 countries. Kathleen is a prize finalist, with her work featured on the national television home renovation series THE BLOCK 2019 and 2020.

Kathleen’s pieces bring the outdoors indoors, with her gentle pinks, dynamic blues and turquoise greens adding a sense of peace to people’s lives. Kathleen has a deep connection to mother nature and can only explain her practice as a need to paint everyday, expressing impressions, feelings and experiences in her daily life. Rhee’s personal style has an atmospheric, powerful, mesmerising touch that she achieves by using subtle colour, depth and descriptive detail.

Born and rise on the coastal hinterland between the Gold Coast and Brisbane she grew up spending all of her free time out in nature. When Kathleen is not painting she is spending time outdoors, at the beach, in the rainforest or looking up at the sky. Colours of her natural surrounds and the sense of calm and joy it brings is what inspires her work. Kathleen combines colour staining, sketching, splattering, layering and painting with a brush to create her works. She enjoys working on a variety of canvas, paper with acrylic, oils and ink.
