Artwork Description

The year has begun as fast paced as 2022 ended. Adding moments of quiet reflection is a way of slowing the mind, for improved focus and stress management.

Inspired by the works of Vuillard amongst many,  I composed this Still Life painting with the vase of flowers leading into the space towards the window in the background with the high contrast of bright light outside. The figure in a mindful moment looks towards the warm reflections of light on the floor of the interior space, directing the viewers gaze to the focal point of the painting

Dimensions: 25cm x 25cm
Oil on Stretched Canvas

Recent Works:-
2022 - Karen's sensitive depiction of local Swamp Gum trees as they appeared in silhouette, with a stormy sky backdrop was selected by the Michael Reid curator Amber-Creswell Bell for her ACB Selects Online Exhibition. Other works in this series are now available here with the Bluethumb Gallery. These paintings depict the unique tree canopy shapes of the dominant Australian tree species occurring in the Narrabeen Lake area  - the Swamp Mahogany (Eucalyptus Robusta) and Swamp She-Oak (Casuarina Glauca).
2021 - A collection of Karen's Floral Still Life oil paintings were exhibited as part of a Still Life Group Show at Diversarty Gallery, Cromer
2021 - From time spent emersed in the natural landscape at Eramboo artist environment, Karen completed a series of plein air oil studies of the bush understory with the native flannel flowers and the pampas grass nestled amongst the upright Spotted Gum trees. Some of these works are available here with the Bluethumb Gallery.

Karen continues to develop her artistic practice, working with an experienced art teacher/mentor and is devoted to a lifelong creative journey within the arts.
