This vibrant painting features a woman swimming in her bikini and her Louboutin's. She is depicted in bright, warm colours such as yellow, red, and orange. She is floating up towards the surface of the water against a dynamic and abstract background filled with energetic swirling colours to represent the water. She is dressed in a blue bikini and blue high-heels, which contrasts against the surrounding colours and enhances the sense of movement and vitality in the artwork. The use of bold, fluid splashes of colour contributes to the overall energy of the scene, while the light blue/green frame serves to highlight the vividness of the painting. This piece captures a moment of elation, inviting viewers to interpret the narrative behind the dynamic imagery.
I work from found and created photographs and film stills. At first glance I was immediately taken by this image - this is a fun-filled piece, giving a wonderful sense of floating up to the surface to the light,, the joy of doing it in a bikini and heels, the colour and light filtered through the water... it represented elation, freedom, breaking free, coming to the surface, and importantly renewal to me.
In the theme of renewal the beautiful professional frame is made of recycled floor boards that I have painted in a slightly lighter tone than the light blue-acqua colour you can see in the painting. I have recycled the canvas from a previous acrylic painting of mine, covered it in Japanese Rice Paper to give a lovely texture that is akin to the movement on the surface of water.
As with most of my paintings I paint in layers - using contemporary techniques the background using expressionistic action painting techniques - pouring, dripping, splashing paint and involving my body in the painting process rather than just the paint brush. The figure was created using pop art techniques and stencils, and a further layer of hand painting brought the foreground and background together. My palette is lovely and bright in this painting, mostly consisting of complementary colours of orange and blue.
I particularly love this piece - the colour and the fun subject - and hope you like it to.
It has been professionally framed and could be repainted a different colour if desired, signed on the front, and is ready to enjoy and hang.
