Artwork Description

This painting received a "commended" at the recent Royal Adelaide Show Art Prize.
Drifted depicts a piece of driftwood resting on the sunlit shores of a beach on Green Island, Queensland. The weathered wood, smooth and worn from its journey at sea, its twisted and gnarled form telling a story of resilience and time. The natural textures of the driftwood, with its pale, sun-bleached surface and deep grooves, contrast beautifully with the surrounding sand, which is finely detailed with subtle shadows and highlights.
The painting invites the viewer to reflect on the peaceful beauty of nature’s remnants, washed ashore after a long journey. Drifted captures a moment of quiet stillness, celebrating the simplicity and elegance of the driftwood against the backdrop of the pristine Australian coastline.
Looking at the painting, it takes me back to that beach and that feeling of serenity.

Painting continues around the edges to allow hanging without a frame.

Artist Bio

Nature has always fascinated me, and I have felt a deep connection to it for as long as I can remember. I am particularly inspired by the way light transforms landscapes and seascapes - turning familiar scenes into something fleeting, luminous and almost magical. These ever-changing moments captivate me, and through my work I hope to share that sense of wonder with the viewer.

I am a part-time artist based in the Adelaide Hills, painting from my home studio whenever time allows. My art reflects the profound happiness I feel in the act of creation. Working primarily in oils, I strive to capture nature’s harmony and beauty in realistic scenes that still reveal the artist’s hand - brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle marks that invite closer inspection.
I am drawn to the richness and versatility of oil paint, often using both brushes and palette knives to build depth and character. While grounded in traditional techniques, I remain curious and open to experimentation, continually exploring new approaches, mediums, and inspirations.

Above all, I hope my paintings offer more than a visual experience — I hope they invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, connection, and joy.
