Whilst creating this piece I was thinking about how you can learn a lot about yourself from reading about others, and that one should always continue learning. The Idiot by Elif Batuman was the perfect book to include in this still life, with a story of self discovery and an apple for the teacher.

Artist Bio
Kiandra Buchanan, née Emary, b. 1990.
Kiandra Buchanan is an Australian Artist originally from Naarm / Melbourne who now calls Wadandi Boodja / Margaret River home. Since completing her multidisciplinary Fine Arts education in Melbourne she's gravitated towards painting. She predominantly uses Oil Paint in the Alla Prima method, as well as Gouache on occasion.
Buchanan’s focus is Still Life. She likes to work with compositions that are a little left of centre, light that sparkles and a muted palette. The work speaks of softness, the beauty of the everyday and finding a refreshed perspective amongst the overlooked and the ordinary. Buchanan paints how it feels and her practice continues to evolve.
Her work has been featured in several group shows locally and nationally, and has been featured in Inside Out Magazine’s Affordable Art Guide and on The Design Files, noting her as a promising new voice in the Australian art scene.
