The Bush Turkey, known by several names is an iconic Australian bird. Well known for its incredible nesting mounds and its destructive tendancies in suburban gardens. This painting is both land and bird-scape, one of my latest series that features distinct Australian birds. I have drawn on the artistic influences of Pop art with bold colour and outlining and also upon a background in printmaking. The painting is striking in its composition, colour and style. The background landscape is inspired by bush walks through an area of forest that has been recently burned. Here, in a sea of black and grey ash, the bush turkey is like a jewel of life and colour. Occasionally on these walks you come across a tree that looks like any other, that has been marked with a bright tie. These little traces of human intervention are so fascinating when you don't know what they mean. The mind starts to wander and imagine all the scenarios, in which a tie might be placed on a tree. Bush ties alludes to my own very strong tie with the bush, the place where I really feel at home.
Bush Ties is an original painting on high quality canvas, professionally stretched around timber bar, varnished and ready to hang. The materials uses are mainly acrylic with some areas washed in oil paint.
