Artwork Description

This work was chosen as a finalist in the Bluethumb Art Prize 2023.
I have a great love of Australian birds and enjoy their bold personalities and boisterous squawking.
This portrait of a sulphur crested cockatoo has been painted with a minimalistic colour palette of payne’s gray, white and gold as a contrast to their more colourful character. A major focus of this work was in the fine feather detail. The regal nature of this proud bird is suggested via the metallic gold floral pattern backdrop.

Pale gold metallic on a deep blue background.
Canvas is stretched over timber 4cm deep. All my work is made from quality, professional materials.
Artwork is ready to hang with wire across back and painted edges.
Painting is unframed however a white, black or natural timber frame would be well suited and can be purchased via Bluethumb or from your local framing supplier.
Painting is titled, dated and signed on back. Hung images are for illustrative purposes, please check dimensions for accurate sizing.

Artist Bio

Kylee is an artist based in Northern NSW for 25 years. She has had a lifelong passion for art in various forms including printmaking, design and digital art. Having completed a Bachelor of Visual Art in 2001 Kylee went on to work as a sign writer and in the graphic design and scenic art fields before recently shifting her primary focus to painting.

With my work I am exploring the mundane and the familiar in Australian culture. My aim is to provoke a feeling of nostalgia in the viewer. Native birds feature heavily with the intention to express their freedom and fragility as well as the boldness of their character.
