I had the image of rows upon rows of thistle under a bright sky, with golden pollen floating on the wind as finches fluttered from plant to plant.
The painting wasn't a very straightforward one because the initial attempt of working on washi paper failed miserably and I had to switch to European cotton paper instead. The second issue was the pollen, which I wanted to portray through a natural splatter of gold ink, but which could have come out too evenly spread and contrived. In the end, using a thicker more oily golden ink gave me the effect I was after.
This painting comes rolled.
