This is one of multiple studies I've created in preparation of a large painting I'd like to start soon. The painting explores shades derived through the use of a chromatic black, and focuses on large contrasts of colour. No brush was used, but instead the piece was done with a palette knife to create the required texture. The top part of the paper is deckled so to retain this charming feature, frame the painting above the matting, not beneath it.
What I love about this piece is that it can also be used as a bookmark! It's varnished, so with proper care, it can survive living in a book~
Please excuse the glare of the scanner. Please look at the photos for a good representation of the dark areas.
This painting would look amazing in a black frame with wide black matting. I hope you like it as much as I do.
